ALKALI
Also called a Base. A basic solution that neutralizes acids by releasing carbonates and/or hydroxides. An alkali is the opposite of acid and is used to increase the pH or total alkalinity of swimming pool water. Most common are sodium carbonate or sodium hydroxide to increase pH, and sodium bicarbonate to increase total alkalinity.
